Project
Before the WaterSmart landscape transformation, the front yard consisted of high-maintenance grass and shrubs. Positioned on a corner lot, the area was highly visible within the neighborhood. While the potential to beautify the area was evident, the budget was extremely tight. After discussing options with Laura from LLD Landscape Design, it became clear that even with a small budget, a natural design was feasible. Large boulders were reused and donated by a landscaper, while some plants were contributed from Laura’s nearby home nursery.
“We decided to install a water-conserving landscape because of the severe drought California has experienced over the last decade,” said Rick W. “We are glad we did, as our water usage is down now, and our front yard looks beautiful.”
The new water-efficient landscape uses rainwater capture in its design. Rainwater from the roof collects in a rock riverbed, keeping it on the property and reducing runoff that can carry pollutants to waterways and beaches. An in-line drip system irrigates all other areas of the landscape. The owners are delighted to witness the riverbed fill up during rainfall, as it brings the landscape to life.
